The Sai Kung Secondary School Tour for primary schools was held successfully on 15th October, 2022. Many parents from primary schools visited our school.
It was an honour to be a helper of this event. Teachers and students showed their best and everyone of us prepared to showcase what we had for the visitors from primary schools. We welcomed parents and primary students wholeheartedly when they entered the school. We prepared a variety of activities for them to experience, from traditional subject-based activities to innovative STEM and abseiling activities.
At the Chinese corner, there was lantern riddles guessing which was traditional and meaningful. At the English corner, there was a wheel-spinning game for students to practise the simple past tense and the other one was a tongue twister game where visitors had to shoot one of the tongue twisters and read it within 10 seconds. It was challenging but fun. There was also a Mathematics corner where you could take part in a game called the 24 puzzle in which the objective is to find a way to manipulate four integers so that the end result is 24. It looked more complicated than it seemed and I could see some visitors scratching their heads during their calculation. On the other side was the Visual Arts corner, visitors could take part in a mini T-shirt drawing activity which they could show their creativity and it could be also kept as a souvenir.
Besides, a lot of parents and kids were amazed at our abseiling demonstration and I myself tried it once as well, which was really unforgettable. The drone demonstration also caught our visitors’ eyes. In addition, a lot of parents were attracted to our STEM activity which demonstrated how we could make use of science in our everyday life. Our students showed how fingerprints could be taken and how DNA could be extracted, which was really fascinating.
It was definitely an amazing experience to see the primary students with their parents leaving with smiles on their faces which brightens my day. Overall, with the converted effort of our principal, teachers and student helpers, the event went smoothly and successfully.
